Feeling uncomfortable? Surprised? Indifferent?
Here are the kdrama character ages vs. cast members’ real ages on the weekender.
Gong Yoo & Kim Go Eun’s Ages On Goblin
I felt uncomfortable with this onscreen pairing. Fantasy goblin character aside, this is a fully grown adult male whose romantic coupling is with a teen. The reality of their visible age difference (12 years) was a little disconcerting.
Kim Go Eun & Yook Sung Jae
This one made for an interesting dynamic. Although Duk Hwa (Yook Sung Jae from BTOB)’s age is not mentioned explicitly, he comes off as early 20s, young enough to be at the mercy of his grandpa’s credit card-wielding power, but old enough to live life somewhat independently.
Kim Go Eun’s character, Ji Eun Tak, is younger than him, which made for an amusing interaction onscreen, because in reality, she’s a few years older than the actor.
Let’s look at one more pairing, our secondary couple.
Yoo In Na & Lee Dong Wook
Our Grim Reaper (Lee Dong Wook) does not mention his age quite as explicitly as our goblin, presumably he’s centuries old.
Sunny (Yoo In Na), is portrayed as somewhere in the early 30s range. One might argue, however, that the actor hasn’t aged a bit since her Secret Garden days. Her and Lee Dong Wook are actually just one year apart.
Im inlove w all of theeeem

Hmmmn.. If I was not mistaken, Kim Shin (Gong Yoo) mentioned that Deok Hwa (Sung Jae) is 25 already and so he can move to other country. By the way, that scene when Eun Tak (Go Eun) was asked by Kim Shin who bought those candles and she said DEOK HWA OPPA made me laugh and interested.. 😊😊

Has anyone considered that the Goblin does not age? His bride does so she would eventually become a Grandma during her remaining three life’s. At least one of them, hopefully.

We made our own video about this actually. Cornwall and I were sort of split on this this. I didn’t think it was too weird (Twilight, anyone?) but Cornwall could see how it would be a little creepy! Here’s the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hp6g0URqnj8
But in general, I’m glad I found your blog! I feel like the Kdrama community is one of the most fun ones to be a part of! 😀 Nice to meet you!

It seems so often when a character is supposed to be really old they get paired up with someone in H.S. or right out of H.S. It always felt weird to me but I think they do that because that is their target audience. Not to say that is ok but at least that would be a reason. I have always thought it could be interesting if they fell for a grandma/grandpa. Would make for an interesting dynamic. 🙂

Very interesting dynamic, indeed. You should check out Miss Granny if you haven’t already!

Hah! I feel like that would make even more sense, since the older person would have similar interests and wisdom.
